Constitution and Statutes

The Cathedral Community is a corporate body which is governed by a constitution. Its rules and regulations are known as its Statutes. Cathedrals of the Church of England have been governed by Statutes since 1533 but the legislation under which the Statutes are drawn up has altered from time to time. The most recent revision came under The Cathedrals Measure of 1999. Members of the Chapter, the governing body of the Cathedral, swear an oath faithfully to observe the "Statutes, Ordinances and Laudable Customs of the Cathedral Church ".
